WHAT IS SEL?

The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) is transforming American education through social and emotional learning. Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process of developing and using the skills, attitudes, and knowledge that help our youth:

  • To identify and regulate emotions

  • To develop positive relationships

  • To make responsible decisions

CASEL’s integrated framework promotes intrapersonal, interpersonal, and cognitive competence across classrooms, schools, homes, and communities.

Social Emotional Learning Resources for Students & Families

CCPS & SEL

Caroline County Public Schools believes students with social and emotional skills perform better academically, have stronger relationships with peers and teachers, experience greater well-being, and engage in less risky behavior.

Having an SEL framework is critical for student success as we in Caroline want all of our students and graduates to be 3E Ready - ENROLLED, ENLISTED or EMPLOYED.

PREPARING STUDENTS FOR TOTAL SUCCESS

We believe the development of a SEL framework not only enhances these performance skills and intelligences in our students but prepares them for success in every area of their academic and personal life.

"If we address the social emotional needs of students and teachers on the front end, it is more likely that high quality instruction and increased student learning will happen on the back end!"

“There is a need for us to focus on social and emotional learning for students. Not only how we can provide the academic support but how we can provide the mental health support and wraparound supports for students.”
